What is islam?

What is islam?

Islam is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who is believed to have been the last prophet sent by God. Muslims believe that the Quran, the holy book of Islam, was revealed to Muhammad by God through the angel Gabriel.

The central tenets of Islam are:

  • Tawhid: The belief in one God, who is all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-merciful.
  • Nubuwwah: The belief in the prophets sent by God, including Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad.
  • Mala'ikah: The belief in angels, who are created by God to carry out His will.
  • Kitab: The belief in the holy books revealed by God, including the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, and the Quran.
  • Yawm al-Qiyamah: The belief in the Day of Judgment, when all people will be judged by God for their actions in this life.
  • Qadar: The belief in divine predestination.

Muslims are required to perform five pillars of Islam, which are:

  • Shahadah: The declaration of faith, which states that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is His prophet.
  • Salat: Prayer, which is performed five times a day.
  • Zakat: Almsgiving, which is giving a portion of one's wealth to the poor and needy.
  • Sawm: Fasting during the month of Ramadan.
  • Hajj: Pilgrimage to Mecca, which is obligatory for all Muslims who are physically and financially able to do so at least once in their lifetime.

Islam is a religion of peace and submission to God. Muslims believe that the purpose of life is to serve God and to live according to His teachings. Islam promotes values such as compassion, justice, charity, and forgiveness.
